10 Reasons to Join the NLA Paraprofessional Section

Mission Statement

The Paraprofessional Section of the Nebraska Library Association (NLA) supports and promotes the Association and library paraprofessionals in all libraries, media centers, and information services within the state of Nebraska. Our mission is communication, growth, and development in our profession, and to make contributions toward providing, fostering, promoting, and preserving the free exchange of information.

Objectives

• To encourage paraprofessional involvement in NLA for the betterment of the library profession.
  
• To advance the status of paraprofessionals.
  
• To serve as a clearinghouse for information relating to paraprofessionals.
  
• To promote continuing education for paraprofessionals which might include the organization of workshops or seminars dealing with paraprofessional needs or interests.
  
• To encourage the advertisement of paraprofessional employment opportunities.
  
• To provide a scholarship to a member who applies for participation in other states or national paraprofessional activities.
  
  

Membership

The Section holds a spring meeting and sponsors programs at the NLA fall conference or pre-conference, business meetings are held at each event. The Section publishes a  newsletter; elects officers; and is represented on the NLA Executive Board. Membership is achieved by joining NLA and choosing the Paraprofessional section.

The Section accepts nominations for the Paraprofessional of the Year Award. This award is given annually to a paraprofessional who has demonstrated outstanding service to the library field. The Section provides Scholarships for library related conferences or professional development. As a member of the Paraprofessional Section of NLA, you will receive the Nebraska Library Association Quarterly (NLAQ) and the Paraprofessional Section's Keynote newsletter.

Dues are assessed annually according to Nebraska Library Association dues procedure.

Mailing List

The NLA mailing list is a discussion of issues concerning Nebraska's librarians. Any Nebraska library staff member or any person associated with a library may subscribe if they are a member of NLA.
