    Conventions

  • Fall NLA Convention - per NLA Bylaws we are supposed to sponsor 3-4 programs a year at the NLA annual convention, this convention is always held in September/October and rotates between Lincoln, Omaha, and out west (Kearney, Grand Island, or North Platte), see below for more details
  • Spring Conference - We hold one annually in the Spring,  see section below for details on session check off list, and you may also review the web page of Past Conferences

    Keynote: publication of the Paraprofessional Section

  • Mailing Lists
    There are 2 Mailing Lists for the Para Section:
  • One for the Executive Board which you are a member of if you are an elected officer or if you are the head of a committee
  • The second one is comprised of all of the current Para members that have email addresses with NLA the email address for this can be found on the Para Front Page under NLA Mailing List.

    Meetings:

  • We have two meetings a year:  
    Mileage
    Form

  • Members of the Executive Board may request mileage reimbursement to one Executive Board meeting a year. The amount per mile will be determined by the Executive Board each year. Please see form for reimbursement.

    NLAQ

  • This is the publication of NLA, we can submit articles to it, see duties of Chair, Vice-Chair, Editor, and/or Secretary-Treasurer below.

    Reports

  • For NLAQ see NLAQ Schedule of Submissions in every NLAQ issue
  • New Chair & New Past Chair need opening & closing remarks to Keynote see deadlines under - Keynote Procedures
  • Chair does a report to NLA board each meeting, please send a copy to the Para Board
  • Treasurer does the next year's budget, send to Para Board Mailing List
  • Spring Program Chair sends a report after the Spring Meeting

    Reimbursement Form

  • Members of the Paraprofessional Section may request reimbursement for items undertaken on their own with prior permission of the Executive Board (i.e., mailing of Keynote, copies made for meetings, etc.). Please see form for reimbursement.

    Specific duties for Elected Officials:

    Chair (3 year term Vice/Chair, Chair, Past-Chair):
  • Chairs should read over the Paraprofessional Bylaws and Handbook, also, NLA Bylaws and Handbook
  • Chair will receive the Para-Chair Manual from the previous chair & the NLA book for upkeep & information
  • Chair will be made a member of the Para Board e-mail group parab@nlc.state.ne.us
  • Chair is a member of the Board of NLA and attends quarterly meetings
  • Chair keeps the Para board up-to-date on section activities and meeting plans, reports at every NLA board meeting - this will be given to all committee members at the meeting or send via the "board's email group" (25-30 copies)
  • Chair presides over all paraprofessional meetings
  • Chair puts out an agenda two weeks ahead of time for a Para Board Meeting, via e-mail or mail to the Para Board
  • Chair will send a copy of his/her annual report to the Executive Director and the Editor of the NLAQ by July 31, and editor of the Keynote, so that it can be printed in the fall issue of NLAQ and Keynote. This will include a financial statement for the year
  • Chair keeps correspondence on the section along with the Secretary-Treasurer
  • Chair  will do an after action report on the fall sessions to the Keynote editor for publication


    Vice-chair/Chair-Elect (one year term):

  • Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect should read over the Paraprofessional Bylaws and Handbook, also, NLA Bylaws and Handbook
  • Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect will be made a member of the Para Board e-mail group parab@nlc.state.ne.us
  • Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect is a member of the NLA CE committee for the NLA Fall Convention

    Past-chair (one year term):

  • Past Chair needs to do slate of candidates by April 30th and submit to the Chair of the NLA nominating Committee (you may obtain the most recent membership list from the head of the membership committee who in turn may get it from the NLA executive director)
  • Past Chair then collects and delivers the bios and black & white photos to NLAQ by April 30th


    Secretary-Treasurer  (2 year term, voted on in even years):
  • Secretary-Treasurer should read over the Paraprofessional Bylaws and Handbook, also, NLA Bylaws and Handbook
  • Secretary-Treasurer will be made a member of the Para Board e-mail group parab@nlc.state.ne.us
  • Secretary-Treasurer takes minutes at all General and Executive Board meetings, and disseminates them to the membership via e-mail, then keeps copies in the secretary book
  • Secretary-Treasurer keeps correspondence on the section along with the Chair
  • Secretary-Treasurer receives 25% of Para members dues from NLA for expenses in the spring
  • Secretary-Treasurer has financial accountability of all monies received and disbursed. The treasurer shall be responsible for these records, and will report quarterly and annually to the NLA Treasurer and at each Para Board Meeting
  • Secretary-Treasurer will arrange for the signatures at the bank to be changed (when & who)

  • Keeps up the section photo/picture book
  • Takes pictures at all Para events
  • Publicize the Para of the Year and with the assistance of the Para Board select one, then arrange for the $50 check each year for Para of the Year from the Treasurer, and a one year membership to NLA. We do only one a year per vote from the board on August, 2003
  • Each year at convention this committee makes up citations for the following: Para of the year, outgoing chair, outgoing secretary-treasurer also any outstanding jobs that Paras did for the year

    Retention Schedule for Documentation - Being Revised Summer 2007

    Agendas - Board Meeting Agendas will be kept in the Chair's notebook for 2 years only no archiving.

    Bylaws - Bylaws most recent version up on the Web. The last 5 years on paper, kept in archival bin with secretary. Send older Bylaws to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Chair's Report to the NLA Board - Chair keeps most recent 5 years in Chair's book. Sends older reports to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Correspondence - Chair & Secretary keeps most recent 5 years in Chair's & Secretary's books. Sends older correspondence to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Evaluations - From sessions at NLA & our Spring Conference, keep one year then destroy

    Handbook - Handbook most recent version up on the Web page. The last 5 years on paper, in archival bin. Sends older Handbook versions to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    KEYNOTE - Editor keeps most recent 5 years as a paper copy. Sends older Keynotes to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    List of current Officers and Committee Chairs - Chair will print yearly (most recent version is up on our Web page) and keep the last 5 years on paper in Chair's book. Sends older lists to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Membership Lists - Membership Committee Chair keeps most recent 5 years in archival bin. Sends older lists to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Minutes (Executive and General meeting minutes) - Secretary keeps most recent 5 years in archival bins. Sends older minutes to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Scrapbook - Spring Meeting Programs, Registrations, Pictures, and associated other documentation - Publicity Committee Chair keeps up the Scrapbook with the last 5 years. Sends older correspondence to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Treasurer's Reports - Treasurer keeps most recent 5 years in Treasurer's book. Sends older reports to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    Web Page - printed out by the Webmaster yearly, at least, and keeps most recent 5 years as a paper copy in its own binder. Sends older copies to the Executive Director of NLA for routing to Nebraska State Historical Society.*

    * Archives go to the Vice-Chair, he or she in turn forwards to the Executive Director of NLA once a year, in January, as a combined effort of the Paraprofessional Section, as per the Retention Schedule for Documentation above. There is an archives policy in the NLA handbook under section 2, Archival Records Policy.
