Special Events

Wednesday:  5:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
Tour of the Saddlebrook Joint Use Facility

The result of a collaboration between the Omaha Public Schools, Omaha Public Library and the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation is the creation of a community-based, public-use facility.

The building features a green-roof design. The energy consumption data will be displayed live on a computer in the media center for use as a working lab of environmental sustainability. Outdoor rain gardens help with storm water management. The project is a model of efficiency and partnership for municipalities facing difficult economic times, coupled with increasing demand for library services and other city funded services – all in a single, co-located facility.

Transportation will be provided by bus from the La Vista Conference Center to the site at 14850 Laurel Avenue.  Leaving at 5:15 p.m. and returning at 7:45 p.m.

Sponsored by BCDM (Beringer Ciaccio Dennell Mabrey):  Hospitality reception in the Central Commons area that connect the three entities.

Wednesday: 9:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Cabela’s Fun Tour and Gala

Here is your opportunity to take a tour of Cabela’s, the world’s foremost outfitter, after the store has closed. Located just across the parking lot from the La Vista Conference Center, it is within easy walking distance.

You can take a conducted tour of the store, watch an archery demonstration and then try your luck at hitting the target, visit the shooting range, play a laser game, go on a scavenger hunt, sample some delicious fudge, and enjoy snacks and a glass of wine, a beer, or a soft drink. Plus, get a discount coupon to use at the store and maybe win a prize!

Thursday: 9:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Open Gaming Night

Join your fellow gamers for an evening of fun and play. Bring your favorite board, video or card games to share or try out a new one. See if you are a guitar hero, a champion Wii bowler, or rank as a dancing revolutionary. From Rock Band to Apples to Apples, there will be all kinds of games available to play. This evening will be filled with fun, networking, and of course, learning and laughing.

Sponsored by ITART and the Nebraska Library Commission.
