"You don't have to be faster than the bear. You just have to be faster
than your assistant."
These words of wisdom from wildlife photographer and Nebraskan Joel Sartore
hint at both the humor and serious insight reflected in his public presentations.
The Nebraska Library Association and the Nebraska Educational Media Association
are pleased to have Joel Sartore as a keynote speaker at the NLA/NEMA 2007
Fall Conference in Kearney, Nebraska.
Sartore graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1985 with a degree
in journalism. He began his career with National Geographic in 1990. In
the time that he has been associated with the magazine, his photographs
have graced the pages of 20 stories. His work has also appeared in Audubon,
Life, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Time, and numerous book projects, such
as the Day in the Life series. In 1999 he authored Nebraska, Under a Big
Red Sky, celebrating the unique people and places of his home. Sartore's
work has been the subject of several television news and documentary programs
and has garnered numerous awards. He was recently featured on the PBS documentary
At Close Range.
Sartore's keynote address is entitled On the Road in the American Heartland.
His session is scheduled for 1:40 - 2:40 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2007.
There will be an autograph session directly following his keynote address.
