2010 Spring Meeting Call for Participation

Librarians and information professionals across Nebraska are invited to submit program proposals for the upcoming spring meeting of the NLA College and University Section. As early adopters of technological innovations, librarians have remained at the forefront in incorporating Web 2.0 utilities into the services they provide. We all know, however, that technological change is imminent. The purpose of this conference is to explore what lies ahead in library and information technology. Presentations can either focus on innovative practices or theoretical discussions and should be approximately 50 minutes in length. We will also feature a Lightning Round consisting of several 15 minute presentations.

ACRL Legislative Advocate Named

Marvel Maring

Marvel Maring, Humanities/Fine Arts Librarian at Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library, UNO, has been named the 2010 C&U Section ACRL Legislative Advocate.

Her duties will include:

  • Be familiar with major legislative issues of importance to ACRL
  • Establish relationships with the staff of the two senators, and the staff of local representative for his/her state
  • Visit the in-state offices and, as possible, the Washington, D.C., offices of his/her senators and legislator
  • Develop relationships with president, provost, members of the faculty, and other members of the academy who may be advocates for library issues.
  • Attend in person, or virtually, training workshops and annual briefing on legislative issues at ALA Midwinter or ALA Annual Conference
  • Be available for consultation with the ACRL office and/or the ALA Washington Office on issues important to higher education and academic libraries
  • Complete semi-annual and annual reports to ACRL on advocacy activities

C&U 2009 Distinguished Service Award Winner

Charity Martin presents Corinne Jacox Award

Corinne Jacox, Catalog/Reference Librarian at Creighton University Klutznick Law Library, receives this year's College & University Section's Distinguished Service Award from 2009 C&U Chair Charity Martin. Corinne's active participation in professional activities and instruction of cataloging courses for the University of Missouri - Columbia were noted in her recognition. She is the immediate past secretary for the C&U Section.

      

C&U Grant Opportunities

The C&U Grant Committee is accepting applications for the C&U Professional Development grant and the C&U Research grant. The Professional Development grant deadline is December 30, 2009. The Research Grant deadline is March 15, 2010.
