10:00 to 10:45 am Briefing at the State Capitol, Hearing Room 1507
State Librarian Rod Wagner, our NLA Lobbyist Andy Pollock, and the Advocacy Committee will provide updates on current issues, initiatives and campaigns. Distribution of packets for visits to Senator’s office.
10:45 to 11:45 am Visit your Senator’s office and update staff with the Advocacy Packets.
Escort senators to lunch. Remind them that if they do not already have a READ poster, they can have their picture taken at lunch. They will receive a copy of the poster in the spring.
12:00 Noon to 1:00pm Lunch and Volunteer Recognition at the Cornhusker, Lancaster Rooms 4, 5, & 6
Invite your senator to lunch. Please offer to pay for your senator’s lunch AND escort them to lunch. If your senator cannot attend, please invite his/her legislative aide – important people in the legislative process. Be sure you get to know them, too! Volunteers will be recognized by their state senators and we are planning a luncheon speaker.
Afternoon Activity Hosted by Nebraska Library Commission & Nebraska Innovation Studio
Nebraska Innovation Studio — the UNL makerspace — is the creative and collaborative hub of Nebraska Innovation Campus, where makers and builders team up to conceptualize, prototype, and iterate projects that solve problems, influence change, and comment on our society. The primary focus is on creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurship and education. If you think you have never been there, you might be wrong. The Studio is located in the original 1931 4-H State Fair Building on Nebraska Innovation Campus. Take this opportunity to see what’s happening in the new space within the old 4-H building. Join us for a tour of Nebraska Innovation Studio and then join us in the beautifully-appointed auditorium to hear leaders discuss the Studio and the importance of maker spaces in libraries and communities, what’s new and what’s in store at Nebraska Innovation Campus, and a “possible” and exciting new grant-funded project that the Nebraska Library Commission is leading that might bring a mobile lab and learning space to libraries across Nebraska in 2016 through 2018.
Location: Innovation Studio & Innovation Campus Auditorium, 2021 Transformation Drive
1:15–2:00 pm Tours of Nebraska Innovation Studio start every 15 minutes between 1:15 and 1:45 p.m. as guests arrive.
