Internet Site Coordinator Search

The NLA Internet Site Coordinator oversees the design, organization and maintenance of the Nebraska Library Association's umbrella web site, in cooperation with various contributing groups.

Anticipated start date is November 1, 2008. The position will be open until filled. Review of applications will begin immediately, however. Responsibilities

  1. Updates content within 5-10 days of notification, or solicits updates as necessary, including but not limited to:

    1. Directory of officers
    2. Coming events
    3. Award recipients for the current year
    4. NLA-wide award recipients (as opposed to Section/Round Table) for all years
    5. NLA By-Laws and Handbook
    6. NLAQ feature articles and other selections
    7. Membership form, benefits information, and call for committees
  2. Maintains current links to web sites maintained by others, including but not limited to:
    1. Sections and Round Tables
    2. Annual conference
    3. Intellectual Freedom Manual
    4. Affiliates such as ALA, MPLA, NEMA and NLC
    5. Scholarship information
    6. Legislative and advocacy pages
  3. Installs and supports membership software, including but not limited to:
    1. Assisting Executive Director with addition and maintenance of membership records
    2. Maintaining member and board email groups
    3. Other functions that software can support, as appropriate (e.g. elections, conference registrations)
  4. Creates a visual layout consistent with the principles of good web design, incorporating appropriate logos and images.
  5. Organizes elements in a logical manner consistent with audience expectations, using appropriate buttons, menus, and other presentation techniques.
  6. Periodically visits other state associations' web sites for ideas and examples.
  7. Arranges for discreet space on the host server for each Section and Round Table as needed.
  8. Provides technical support and/or maintenance of Section and Round Table web sites as needed.
  9. Establishes and recommends guidelines for web site development to the Sections and Round Tables.
  10. Provides a roster of Section and Round Table webmasters for publication in the winter issue of NLAQ .
  11. Develops and implements an archival policy for the NLA web site in conjunction with the Executive Director and NLAQ Editor.

Job Knowledge and Requirements

  1. It is preferred that the person selected for this position has some library education and has experience with the Nebraska Library Association.
  2. Possession of hardware and software adequate to the task, or access to same.
  3. Fluency in FTP and HTML; knowledge of Unix and web servers.
  4. Understanding of the principles of web site design and organization
  5. Ability to scan and manipulate photographs and images.
  6. Ability to assess and implement current technological trends in web site development and other Internet applications.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively and work in collaboration with contributing groups and affiliates.
  8. Understanding of NLA structure and operations as outlined in the NLA Handbook.

Relationships and Accountability

  1. It is expected that the person selected for this position shall be a member of NLA throughout their contract term. Payment of NLA dues shall be waived.
  2. Works with the Publications and Publicity Committees to establish the scope and content of the NLA web site, with approval of the Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, Past President, Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Director).
  3. Solicits content from the Sections, Round Tables, standing committees, conference coordinators, and others as appropriate.
  4. Serves as an ex officio member of the NLA Board and Publications Committee, and attends meetings as scheduled.
  5. Investigates and recommends the purchase of software or peripherals to the NLA Board as needed.
  6. Undergoes an annual evaluation by the Executive Committee of NLA.

Appointment and Compensation

The Internet Site Coordinator is appointed by the President with approval of the Board of Directors for the calendar year (January-December). Following an annual review by the Executive Committee of NLA, the NLA Board of Directors may renew this appointment for another year. The President may appoint an interim Internet Site Coordinator as necessary.

The Internet Site Coordinator is paid a monthly stipend within a range of $150.00 to $175.00, to be paid the first of each month for the previous month's work. In addition, reimbursement for other expenses is made by the Treasurer upon receipt of a NLA Expense Disbursement Form.

This contract may be extended month-by-month if agreed upon by both the Internet Site Coordinator and the Executive Committee of NLA.

This arrangement may be terminated at any time after one month's notice and upon agreement by the NLA Executive Committee and the Internet Site Coordinator.
