Maggie Harding farewell party
Many of you know and have worked with Maggie Harding. Maybe it was when she was Executive Director of the Nebraska Library Association, or perhaps when she was promoting library advocacy at the Nebraska Library Commission, or for some, it may have been when she was director of the Crete Public Library.
Our loss is Colorado's gain as Maggie is leaving the state very soon and moving to Natrop, Colorado. We want to give her a fun send-off to wish her well and thank her for all she has done for the Nebraska world. Eastern and Southeast Library Systems are sponsoring an Open House on Friday, September 21, at the Old Chicago (second floor) at 826 P Street, in Lincoln starting at 4:00 pm and ending at 7:00. There will be a cash bar and you can order a meal or snackies at your own expense.
So come join your fellow librarians to give Maggie and her husband Gene a good send-off.

Spring is Ripe for a NLA Spring Meeting
Support your Section or Round Table at their Spring Meeting. It's a great time to network with other NLA members and attend some great sessions. Since Spring Meetings are a much smaller group you can mingle with more attendees.
You can attend via a videoconference (Para, March 14), pick your favorite location (PUBLIC LIBRARY/SCYP/TUFS, May 7-11), learn about a Hispanic holiday (Diversity Committee, April 25), or get to know the "Next Generation Library" (C&U/TSRT, May 18).
The deadline for the first one is coming this next week (March 7 for the Para Spring Meeting, Meeting March 14, ), so hurry and get your registration in!
You can find details on all of these on the Nebraska Library Association web site calendar.

2007 Nebraska Library Leadership Institute
The Nebraska Regional Library Systems and the Nebraska Library Commission are sponsoring the 2007 Nebraska Library Leadership Institute this summer.
The purpose of the Nebraska Leadership Institute is to provide future Nebraska library leaders a structured professional development opportunity to:
- Examine their own leadership styles in depth.
- Gain knowledge and skills needed for effective leadership in a changing environment.
- Identify their professional and personal goals.
- Develop a network of professional peers with whom they will continue to work. This network will become extremely valuable as librarians and librarians work together to address local and statewide issues.
- Interact with a select group of outstanding library leaders who will serve as mentors.
The institute will be held July 9-13, 2007, at the St. Benedict’s Conference Center in Schuyler. Leading the course are Becky Schreiber and John Shannon of Schreiber Shannon Associates who have facilitated library leadership institutes across the country as well as Australia. The fee of $200 covers lodging, food, books, and training; everything but mileage.
The institute is open to individuals from all types of libraries who exhibit leadership potential, including the ability to share with others, optimism, and vision for the library services of tomorrow. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or visit the SELS website for information. We do have some limited funds for scholarship, courtesy of Nebraska Library Association.

New Executive Director
Hello everyone:
I think I can speak for everyone in sending Maggie our heartfelt thanks
for being our organizer, institutional memory, and mentor as Executive
Director. Now that Kathy Thomsen's contract has been approved I can tell
you a bit about her.
Kathy is a native and resident of North Platte. She is a certified
teacher and taught in the Eustis schools until 1990. Kathy earned her
MLS from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993 and worked for
Lincoln City Libraries from 1994-2000 as a Youth Services Librarian and
interim branch supervisor. Kathy has been a member of ALA, NLA, MPLA,
and has been SCYP chair, worked on the Golden Sower Committee, and has
served on the Nebraska State Youth Advisory Board. Her late husband Ken
was a school media specialist.
I'm confidant that Kathy will do a wonderful job filling Maggie's shoes
as our new Executive Director.
Best regards:
Beth Goble
