NLA Public Library and Trustee Section webpage

I am pleased to announce that changes are underway since the Public Library Section and the Trustees, Users and Friends Section have joined forces! We are now the Public Library and Trustee Section (PLTS).

If you are looking for the Public Library and Trustee Section webpage you will now need to direct your browser to http://www.nebraskalibraries.org/PLTS/ rather than the old website which ended in PLS. If you had the Public Library Section (PLS) bookmarked in Favorites, you will want to delete the old bookmark and create a new one.

You may also get to the webpage by starting at www.nebraskalibraries.org and clicking on the link for Sections, Round Tables and Committees.

Sincerely,
Nancy Chmiel – NLA PLTS Chair

PLS & TUFS correction

In a message out last week the wrong date for the Public Library Section/TUFS Awards Luncheon & Annual Meeting was stated. The PLS/TUFS Meeting is at Noon on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2007. The Luncheon Thursday is the NLA Business Meeting and this issue will not be on that agenda.

PLS/TUFS Proposed Merger & Bylaws Revision

Greetings fellow NLA members from Nadine DiBacco, Public Library Section Chair and Charles Gordon, TUFS Chair,

This message is of specific interest to Public Library Section Members and Trustees, Users & Friends Section Members, but all members may have an interest.

You have no doubt read in the Fall issue of the NLAQ the proposed bylaws changes to the Public Library Section of NLA resulting from the interest shown by the Trustees, Users & Friends Section to disband. TUFS members have expressed interest in being included in the Public Library Section (which seems a natural extension if TUFS is to no longer exist as a separate section). Therefore, the proposed bylaws changes address the needs of each section and proposed a new name for the section of “Public Library and Trustee Section.” Only the changes to the Public Library Section Bylaws appear in the NLAQ. If you are interested in the complete bylaws with the proposed changes, they follow, cut and pasted into this message. Many thanks to the PLS bylaws committee and to all PLS members, TUFS members, and NLA Board members who contributed to preparing the bylaws proposal.

As we understand it, what remains in this process follows:

  1. The discussion and decision will be at the Annual Meetings of the current two sections, held in conjunction with the Awards Luncheon on Friday noon. The Luncheon is listed on the registration form as “Public Library Trustee Section.” Get your registrations in soon! Edit: Luncheon is Friday, not the originally stated Thursday
  2. It is critical that as many members as possible of both Sections attend this Luncheon to provide adequate discussion and understanding of the proposal.
  3. TUFS a motion will be made, discussion held, and a vote taken concerning disbanding the section and merging with the Public Library Section.
  4. Based on the TUFS vote, the Public Library Section will discuss and vote on the motion presented by the section bylaws committee or an amended form of that motion.
  5. If both motions carry, the Sections will move forward as merged with the new name for the NLA year 2007-2008. The 2007-2008 NLA Board will make whatever adjustments are necessary at one of their next meetings.
  6. Currently the Trustees, Users & Friends Section has forwarded no names for the 2007-2008 ballot of officers. If an agreement is not forthcoming at the NLA Fall Conference, TUFS will simply cease to exist and its monies will revert to the NLA General Fund.

The proposed bylaws have been forwarded in email to the membership. If you did not receive them, please contact Nadine DiBacco, nadinedibacco@yahoo.com
