Building Libraries In Nebraska
John Bernardi, Editor NLAQ
For this special NLAQ issue on library building and construction, we invited a variety of persons involved in library construction in Nebraska  to write from their unique perspectives.  We were especially interested in partnerships that have been forged  between different political entities for these building projects.  These writers are all to be congratulated for their excellent articles.

Lillian Kaslan and Jerome Lobner have jointly written about a combined school/public library project in Loup City, NE.  Dr. Ron Heezen, the director of the Omaha Public Library System, has written an essay on cooperation and an article on the planned South Branch/Metropolitan Community Library project.

Nebraska Library Commissioner Wally Seiler shares his views on a joint public library/community college project in Alliance, NE.  The beautiful new Metro Sarpy Center and LaVista Public Library is a showpiece of another public/community college arrangement.

Oftentimes, we never hear from the architects or the users themselves.  Lowell Berg, an architect involved in Lincoln City Library building projects, has written about his work.  Henry “Joe” Runge, a recent Creighton University graduate, provides an interesting vision of a future academic library.  Norma Koertje and Lisa Geiken proudly describe their new libraries in Bloomfield and Gothenburg.

We asked writers to describe any partnerships being utilized in building/construction projects in their areas and which government agencies and institutions had teamed up to fund the projects.  We thought it would be especially interesting to hear about any unusual funding arrangements for these projects anywhere in the state.  Certainly we wanted to hear about some current architectural and interior design styles.  Most of all, we wanted the writers to offer some advice and suggestions for those involved in future projects.
