Invest in Nebraska Libraries

The Planned Giving Program is an ongoing activity of NLA. Its goal is to provide support for library education and public awareness throughout the state. Funds will be used to help provide learning opportunities for NLA members and to increase awareness of the value of all types of libraries in Nebraska.

You can be an important part of this on-going program to provide support for the betterment of libraries and staff. Donations can be made at any time of the year. Just fill out the information on the form. You may also make a contribution on the membership form that is on the NLA webpage.

Making a Difference

Continuous education and training needs for librarians throughout the state of Nebraska has been a primary goal of the Nebraska Library Association (NLA) since its inception. Unfortunately, the expense of providing quality trainers and speakers has limited the programs NLA's been able to offer. One of the goals of the Planned Giving Program is to have funds available to contribute to educational opportunities. The library's role as a center for education, recreation and culture in the community continues to be relied on with increasing and growing demands. That expectationfrom Nebraska residents requires staff that are well-trained and motivated in providing services in expanding formats.

Nebraska library public relations require additional financial commitments that in the past have relied on voluntary and individual library efforts rather than a broad coordinated effort. One of the constant battles for libraries is remaining visible to the community. Statewide professional efforts can be costly, yet effective in increasing awareness of available library services, whether through television, radio, or printed advertisements.

Why Plan a Gift for NLA

Many NLA members spend their lives passionately involved in the library community, and may find that a gift to the Planned Giving Fund for Nebraska Librarians and Libraries is a way of carrying on that commitment. It can be a tool for expressing your beliefs and values and contributing toward an effort that contributes to services available to all Nebraskans across the state through their local libraries.

NLA Legacy Society

The Nebraska Library Association Planned Giving Program kicked off its 5-year campaign at the NLA/NEMA Conference in Omaha on October 30th, 2003. The goal leading up to January 31st, 2004 was to raise a $10,000 base to get the fund off the ground. Forty donors responded to the initial call to start that commitmentto Nebraska libraries. Those donors provided a grand total of $13,480 in outright single donations or pledges of a minimum of $250. Members of the Legacy Society received pins in recognition of their support.
