Libraries @ the Heart of Nebraska

The inspiration for this year’s theme comes from Nebraska Statutes* showing state legislators’ vision for the best and how libraries are at the heart of:

  • Leading the nation in the twenty-first century
  • Maintaining the best quality of life in Nebraska communities
  • Propelling economic, social, and cultural growth for Nebraska to keep pace worldwide
  • Safeguarding an educated and democratic society
  • Stimulating thought, awareness, and involvement in issues of public interest
  • Paving avenues for intellectual and cultural growth and enjoyment
  • Caring for the personal, educational, and vocational needs of Nebraskans
  • Ensuring Nebraskans can compete on a global scale

 * 51-201.02, 51-801 and 86-512 in particular

Agenda for the day

  • Coffee at 8:30 AM
  • Briefings at 9:30 AM

Nebraska Library Commission Budget Request

Achieving the vision of Libraries @ the heart of Nebraska requires continual communication between libraries and legislators. There’s lots to talk about the valuable role all kinds of libraries play at the heart of Nebraska, including the Library Commission’s request for an additional $390,000 in FY 2016 and an additional $417,500 in FY 2017 for:

Nebraska eReads - eBooks & digital audiobooks including Nebraska OverDrive Libraries Group | Edge Initiative assessment tool to strengthen Nebraska Public Libraries | Online Self-Directed Education & Training | Student Internships
